An Open Letter to CBCP

Posted by atty_magman in Something Classy

Dear CBCP,

quit meddling with politics and continue preaching His Word, since that’s the only power that has been bestowed upon you.

back in my Philippine History class in college, our professor told us why you guys keep sticking your nose to the dirty surface that is Philippine Government. she told us that it’s because Spanish missionaries were sent to these God-forsaken islands to advertise Christianity and eat what ’s on their plate, bring it back to their country, and own whatever land they own. some of them weren’t even priests but just posers who wanted to lead these lands. and this practice has been passed on from generation to generation even up until now. and no, she’s not bluffing. perhaps, you know Ms. Carolina P. Danao, former Dean of College of Arts and Social Sciences of Mindanao State University - IIT? if you do, then perhaps you really know what she’s saying. but then i digress.

i was born a year before EDSA I sparked and amazed the whole world  how bloodless revolution can be even possible. and I am at awe for the fact that Cardinal Sin (may God bless his soul - but then i guess They are Kumpadres up there) contributed a lot in uniting the whole of Metro Manila and some provinces in ousting the late president and semi-idol Ferdie. but then, this fact does not give you free passes of meddling with what the government should do and what should not do.

first, you guys should STOP preaching political issues during mass. God, i hate it when i happen to listen to one. one reason why i do not go to church more often. instead of saying the Good News, you invite church goers to a rally. on the streets. what the hell is that?  and worse, you guys point out the dirty marks on politicians that you don’t support. you say that’s the benefit of all. i say that’s selling out. i think you should stick to the Holy Bible. you will see there’s no Philippine Elections written there.

second, if you do not have any suggestions in solving the country’s problem with population, then stop ricocheting words of disagreement and disgust on the solution. it just gives me the creeps to think that we will double our number in a few years. that means more hungry people, more homeless families, more jobless individuals, a dirtier country full of dirty people that are so hard to educate because they have dirtier minds and because you are just okay with it. the morales of the kids nowadays are getting low. i can eavesdrop on kids talking on the street about sex. kids of about 8 to 12 years old talking about sex. if this does not scare you, you might have the problem, not them, not us. speaking of sex…

have you guys heard about HIV? how about AIDS? i bet you have. in case you haven’t, well it’s really a serious case and sex education and contraceptives like condom are good help. but why are you guys so afraid of the rubber? why do you keep on saying that it is not for a good cause? because it degrades what you believe in? seriously, i think it’s because you guys don’t have the freedom to f*ck any churchgoer that you have an eye with (or because you can’t just have the liberty to discuss about who you made love with - aminin). i have observed, the Filipinos are getting hornier by the minute. and horny Filipinos are getting younger, too. why? because the more you oppose, the more they will rebel.  if you can’t be so supportive about this cause, imagine the thrill.

lastly, stop speaking in behalf of your beliefs (or lack thereof). that’s just too selfish and it does not help us improve and also does not give us the right to proclaim ourselves as a better nation. i am pleading you to stop injecting what you oppose to thousands and millions of people who attend to your preachings because you do not know what it is like to feed 5, 6, and even 20 children with only 100 pesos a day. you don’t know what it is to have incurable disease that most victims don’t know they have it.

stop, because you simply don’t know.

Chowking Velez Cagayan de Oro Sucks

Posted by atty_magman in Something Classy

one of the things that i envy about other countries is that they really have good service when it comes to their restaurants. they make sure you are properly seated, they make sure they get your orders right, and they do anything they can just to make sure you are enjoying your stay, your meal and most importantly, your experience with them.

here in the Philippines, hmm, let’s just say that  most of them don’t follow such practice. even giant fastfood chains are no exception. and here is my little experience with Chowking Velez - Cagayan de Oro.

because of the daily power outage, i have no choice but to hunt for coffee shops or bistro that has WiFi connection for the past few weeks. and since i am starting to run out of cash, my brother and i went to Chowking Velez (near Gaisano City and Capitol Hall of Misamis Oriental), just to have black gulaman, rather than having gourmet coffee (malayo pa ang Friday).

at first we were disappointed that they took time to clean up tables. i have asked 2 waiters a couple of times to kindly clean our tables. but they just nodded and never returned, until me and my brother said in a composed but demanding tone “bida, ganiha ra mi dire, unaha mi dire (for God’s sake, we’ve been here for a while now, please clean this table up first). and so off he cleaned it. and our order arrived soon after cleaning.

moments later, the supervisor came close to my table and asked if i was waiting for something. i said no, and i found out that the cue is still on my table, so he grabbed it and, i don’t know but i felt he hates my presence. and in a matter of seconds my WiFi connection was gone.

i panicked because i was still in the middle of a conversation with a client. we were not finished yet with our talk but it suddenly cut-off! wth!

i then went to the cash register to ask if there’s something wrong with the connection, apparently my brother’s connection got cut off, too (just to show that it’s not my laptop’s fault). i asked one of the cashiers, and she pointed me out to that supervisor who approached me on my table while i was doing work. he then told me that he will refresh the router or something, so i went back to my table. i refreshed it but still, no darn connection.

i was about to lose my cool, when i approached a waiter who was busing out dishes, i asked him “kuya, may time limit ba internet niyo?” he said wala. and then i told him “eh bakit naman nawala connection ko?” he asked if i have entered,  the right password, i said yes. and just as soon i was about to ask something, he left, as if he was done with my problem. no, he was not yet done!

i asked my brother if we could leave immediately, and so off we went.

and if you might think i am just being dramatic, see, i am not the only one who has experienced the same problem with the same establishment.

a year ago, my friend Robstroy shared his sentiment with Chowking Velez. you can read his post on how Chowking Velez sucks here.

one of the things that our food and beverage industry lacking is the proper training of their staff and crew. nakakainis isipin, to think we are known for being hospitable, but we can be so rude and judgmental to our own brothers and sisters.

i am deeply disappointed with this because it could have cost me a good client and my job just because my connection got cut off. i am so lucky enough my client understood the ordeal i had gone through. but what if i was not? what if he would reject my work right then and there? and what if it could happen to you, and you are not as lucky as me? hassle, right?

so if you want to go out and you are looking for WiFi location around the city, going to Chowking Velez in Cagayan de Oro City is not really a good idea.

i hope that this entry will come to the establishment’s attention.

*i updated some major typos. i was rushing to finish this post because my lappy’s battery was about to go kaput. sorry about that* -magman

*i will just jot this down before i go to sleep. our rotating blackout schedule here in Mindanao is slowly becoming a woman: unpredictable* kidding

so it’s confirmed that Ruffa Gutierrez (or Guttierez? sorry, until now i still get confused with the right spelling) is out of ABS-CBN and off to TV5 (i first thought GMA). but Kris Aquino/Noy Aquino’s sister/James Yap’s wife/Baby Jame’s mother/her parent’s daughter has said something that made Ruffa aggravated, emotional, and finally walked away of “The Buzz” set.

here is the video of the said incident:

way to go, Kris. there goes your brother’s plus points, too.

moments later, monster mom Annabelle Rama, predictably, made a reaction paper on “The S Files” (plus Pia Guanio’s eyeroll reaction is a classic - watch out for 0:14):

here are my 50 peso bill (because two cents? that’s damn small!):

- Kris Aquino is known to be tactless, but just because we know that fact does not mean that she can get away with it. she really needs to know when to shut up.

- i might not like Ruffa at all times because she’s OA, you know? but i am for her this time, because it’s not right to make a joke out of someone’s sadness. especially if the joke is not really designed for comfort. it’s like losing your wallet and your friends will laugh at you because you’re broke.

- Raymond Gutierrez is gay.

- Pia Guanio needs to know when to not roll her eyes. on national TV.

- after listening to monster mom’s phone patch, Annabelle Rama reminds me of this video clip:

my bet for Bb Pilipinas 2010

Posted by atty_magman in Something Classy

i tried to watch the pre-pageant night last Sunday even though my eyes were getting heavier by the second. i must see who deserves to represents our dear country to the international pageants, namely Miss International, Miss World, and last - but definitely the most coveted - Miss Universe.

best thank you girls of 2009

best thank you girls of 2009

i haven’t watched it from the very start since we were watching a movie (Legion), but good thing i caught it at the swimsuit competition.

i must say that the contestants for this year are mixed from sexy, not too sexy, and mama-must-have-told-them-they-are sexy. but when it comes to face value, most of them are not stunning enough, if not all.

then came the evening gown presentation. as soon as i saw the first gown, my brows began to kiss because of such sight. those gowns were hideous! those gowns of pink and purplish something really caught my attention, in a bad way. it lacks imagination, as if frankenstein created it. plus those were not even properly ironed!

i turned the tv off and went to sleep.

we still have to find out who will be our best bet for this year’s battle of the bombshells. out of the 24 lovely candidates, i picked Krissa Mae, the girl from GoBingo, because for one she’s the only one i know by name (I have other two but I forgot their names completely). two, she looks gorgeous enough. three, her boobs are big enough.

Good for Miss Universe

Good for Miss Universe

i think she will do good and i want her to represent for Miss Universe. but she has to go on a diet, tone those abs a bit more, practice on her posture, and really practice more on the way she walks!

but i hope Stella Araneta would read this open letter first.

there goes the thriller

Posted by atty_magman in Something Classy

guys, we might not possibly be seeing the Cebu Dancing Inmates dancing again.

sadly, for political reasons.

Cebu’s world-famous dancing inmates are no longer performing in public or rehearsing in prison.

All that has been put on hold on orders of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Garcia said she had received reports questioning where donations for inmates went, and so wants a new system in place to account for money and gifts given by generous admirers to the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) .

Inmates became an Internet sensation in 2007 after their version of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” was posted on YouTube.

They became even more famous after Jackson’s choreographer, Travis Payne, appeared with them last month in a dance video for the DVD release of Jackson’s “This is It” concert under an exclusive arrangement with Sony Entertainment.

The status of Byron Garcia, Capitol security consultant, remains up in the air as the governor has not renewed his contract for 2010 pending review.

The inmates’ longstanding choreographer, Gwen Lador, resigned.

Byron, who supervises the CPDRC, was the one who first required inmates to do synchronized dance steps or an “algorithm march” as a form of discipline and later steered them to various pop music dance routines for fun and rehabilitation.

He denied that he’s been pulled out of the CPDRC and a rift exists with his elder sister, the governor.

He told Cebu Daily News in a text message that he did not know about the orders of the governor to stop the dancing at the CPDRC. . “Wala man ko information ana (I don’t know about that).”

Governor Garcia told a news conference yesterday that she decided to pull the plug on the CPDRC dancing inmates after talks circulated that some people benefited from donations given to CPRDC.

“Precisely because of the sudden peak of their fame, I think you are all aware of the intrigues, the innuendos, the whispers, unfairly or unjustly accusing certain personalities of benefiting from such fame,” she said.

“In order to to put a stop to all of this, I issued a memorandum reminding one and all that all activities that have been going on must be cleared with the Office of the Governor, namely myself. After all, as the official jailer, I will be ultimately responsible for anything and everything that goes on there.”

Asked by CDN if Byron was still Capitol security consultant, the governor said she has not signed the contract renewing his consultancy services.

In the past, the governor proudly credited Byron for using dancing as a novel way of rehabilitating inmates and then bringing pride to Cebu with the inmates’ international success.

Public performances at the CPDRC every third Satuday of the month and special occasions are open to the public and have drawn a growing number of tourists.

“Gipatawag namo ug meeting, wala ma’y tunga-tunga (We invited him to attend meetings but he never showed up),” Garcia said of her brother.

It remains to be seen if Gwen would renew her brother’s contract.

Talks have been rife about a strain in the relations of the two siblings.

Byron, on the record, said there was no conflict between him and the governor. He said he was at the CPDRC last night performing his duties while he was texting CDN.

In the meantime, dancing in the CPDRC has been suspended.

Governor Garcia said she told jail officials to intensify the program on planting of crops inside the compound instead.

She started the agricultural program in December 2004 when the jail was transferred to its present site in a hilly part of barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.

“I have instructed our social welfare and provincial health offices and the Provincial Agriculture Office to continue with our program,” Gwen said.

“In terms of their continuing to dance, tanawn nato. Naa pa man ug nabalik naman ang mga CD sa kanang ilang background music. Since the choreographer has resigned, we will see if we will find another one,” she said.

Garcia said she didn’t want let the dance performances overshadow the rehabilitation program.

“The real story there is their rehabilitation, their transformation and the program that has given them the encouragement to become useful and upright citizens inside the CPDRC,” she said.

She said she wanted transparency in the accounting of all donations given to the provincial jail.

She said she had received reports that some donations were not properly documented and benefited some individuals, whom she did not name. To address these “innuendos,” she said she will implement a better accounting system.

No details were given. The governor only said that there was need to correct some practices.

“I think the practice there is that donations are directly deposited in the bank accounts of the inmates. That is fine but when you make a donation to a government facility, that means there must be proper procedure that must be followed,” the governor said.

“In the interest of transparency, we insisted that all donations to the CPDRC must be properly documented by the Office of the Governor.”

Byron was assigned to the CPDRC as security consultant in 2004, the start of Governor Garcia’s first term.

In 2007, he started a program that used synchronized dance steps as an experiment in rehabilitaiton of the inmates. The inmates version of “Thriller” logged 38 million hits in YouTube and caught the attention of Jackson and his choreographer, Travis Payne.

Travis and two dancers flew to Cebu on Jan. 16 to to shoot a dance video to the music “They Don’t Care About Us” for a special DVD release of the King of Pop’s documentary “This Is It”. It logged 3.6 million hits on YouTube as of last night.

The terms of the exclusive arrangement with Sony Entertainment were not disclosed although Byron, in an interview, said there was “no payment” for the performance.

There was no public performance for January, raising speculations that Byron had been sanctioned. The inmates’ choreographer, Lador, later resigned.

Byron reportedly left his office at the CPDRC.

The governor yesterday said he has not been attending meetings she called in her office.

Byron on the other hand said that he has not left the CPDRC and he has ongoing conflict with his sister.

PBB: cooked well done?

Posted by atty_magman in Something Classy

so we all know that PBB ended a couple of days ago. and we all know who won. right? you don’t? good for  you, you have a life!

from 3.bp.blogspot.com

from 3.bp.blogspot.com

i am not really a big fan of PBB. i only watch it when i have a chance. and when there is a task ordered by Big Brother that requires shedding some clothes. but somehow i watched the last few episodes of the third season who had just concluded last Saturday.

Melai of GenSan won. congrats to her. but many believe that the real winner is the Cebuano rich kid Paul Jake Castillo, and that Melai’s victory was all but a sham. hmm….

they believe that ABS-CBN, the network that holds the Big Brother franchise, really wanted Melai to win, for she is more “bankable” than Paul Jake. they also believe that the network planned this all too well: since Paul Jake got the highest percentage of text votes compared to the loud and kooky girl of General Santos City, they had to come up with something to pull down the votes. Here are their evidences.

Exhibit A:

last Friday, Boy Abunda visited the five remaining housemates for some one-on-one talk. it seems that Paul Jake got the hottest, most personal and most controversial questions. - not to mention most of the questions are not really PBB related.  these questions, they say, were some sort of psychological warfare to make PJ a bad image to the public.

Exhibit B:

the mysteriously fast catch-up of Melai in getting the highest percentage of votes. this is very debatable since anything can happen in one day. but i guess it is really impossible, too, to get ahead that fast and that big.

here is a screenshot of the partial tally that was shown last Tuesday

from http://i50.tinypic.com/m96s1i.jpg

from http://i50.tinypic.com/m96s1i.jpg

and here are the fnal results of the voting tally:

“The time for the announcement of the Big Winner has come! And the results? Well, here go: Melai won as the Big Winner with 32.08%, followed comparatively by Paul Jake with a 27.31%; Jason and Johan came in third and fourth with 24.97% and 7.94% respectively while Tibo landed as the very first Fifth Big Placer with a 7.69%!”

from http://doubleup.pinoybigbrother.com/tabid/57/item/379/The-Big-Date-on-the-Big-Night-.aspx

Exhibit C:

the rejected Paul Jake text votes even it was entered before the deadline.

“Call me jologs, but I voted for Paul Jake at the start of the Big Night (about 6 times), but I was surprised to receive the confirmation message AFTER the program. And what’s more surprising is that my votes were not counted, closed na raw ang voting. I would love to show you pictures of my iPhone with my text votes and confirmation messages but I don’t know how to go about taking picture of the phone and pasting them here. Eeeeeepppp!”

*picture and text by un_frenesi, as seen on http://chuvaness.com

i voted 4 times for Paul Jake (okay call me jologs! hehe), 3 votes got in pero yung isa hindi.

picture and text from autumnheartsme, as seen on http://chuvaness.com

WTF? akala ko sakin lang nangyari yan! WEIRD

picture and text by katkat_e23 as seen on http://chuvaness.com

after seeing these pics and after reading the reviews, one can really think hard if this game is true to itself, ot not.

for the record, i am not against Melai, neither did i root fervently for anyone, including my own kababayan, Tibo. but if these evidences are all true, you could not help but sigh that, indeed, politics run in everything and not just in government.
