Chowking Velez Cagayan de Oro Sucks

Posted by atty_magman in Something Classy

one of the things that i envy about other countries is that they really have good service when it comes to their restaurants. they make sure you are properly seated, they make sure they get your orders right, and they do anything they can just to make sure you are enjoying your stay, your meal and most importantly, your experience with them.

here in the Philippines, hmm, let’s just say that  most of them don’t follow such practice. even giant fastfood chains are no exception. and here is my little experience with Chowking Velez – Cagayan de Oro.

because of the daily power outage, i have no choice but to hunt for coffee shops or bistro that has WiFi connection for the past few weeks. and since i am starting to run out of cash, my brother and i went to Chowking Velez (near Gaisano City and Capitol Hall of Misamis Oriental), just to have black gulaman, rather than having gourmet coffee (malayo pa ang Friday).

at first we were disappointed that they took time to clean up tables. i have asked 2 waiters a couple of times to kindly clean our tables. but they just nodded and never returned, until me and my brother said in a composed but demanding tone “bida, ganiha ra mi dire, unaha mi dire (for God’s sake, we’ve been here for a while now, please clean this table up first). and so off he cleaned it. and our order arrived soon after cleaning.

moments later, the supervisor came close to my table and asked if i was waiting for something. i said no, and i found out that the cue is still on my table, so he grabbed it and, i don’t know but i felt he hates my presence. and in a matter of seconds my WiFi connection was gone.

i panicked because i was still in the middle of a conversation with a client. we were not finished yet with our talk but it suddenly cut-off! wth!

i then went to the cash register to ask if there’s something wrong with the connection, apparently my brother’s connection got cut off, too (just to show that it’s not my laptop’s fault). i asked one of the cashiers, and she pointed me out to that supervisor who approached me on my table while i was doing work. he then told me that he will refresh the router or something, so i went back to my table. i refreshed it but still, no darn connection.

i was about to lose my cool, when i approached a waiter who was busing out dishes, i asked him “kuya, may time limit ba internet niyo?” he said wala. and then i told him “eh bakit naman nawala connection ko?” he asked if i have entered,  the right password, i said yes. and just as soon i was about to ask something, he left, as if he was done with my problem. no, he was not yet done!

i asked my brother if we could leave immediately, and so off we went.

and if you might think i am just being dramatic, see, i am not the only one who has experienced the same problem with the same establishment.

a year ago, my friend Robstroy shared his sentiment with Chowking Velez. you can read his post on how Chowking Velez sucks here.

one of the things that our food and beverage industry lacking is the proper training of their staff and crew. nakakainis isipin, to think we are known for being hospitable, but we can be so rude and judgmental to our own brothers and sisters.

i am deeply disappointed with this because it could have cost me a good client and my job just because my connection got cut off. i am so lucky enough my client understood the ordeal i had gone through. but what if i was not? what if he would reject my work right then and there? and what if it could happen to you, and you are not as lucky as me? hassle, right?

so if you want to go out and you are looking for WiFi location around the city, going to Chowking Velez in Cagayan de Oro City is not really a good idea.

i hope that this entry will come to the establishment’s attention.

tsk..tsk…thats bad! those crew, even d supervisors needs serious customer service training! such rudeness towards customers is not justifiable! granted they hav a policy reagarding their internet usage, they cud’ve at least informed u guys politely abt it! ur connection was probably disconctd on purpose! how rude! ive never been in that branch and i have no intentions of dining there! esp. now that u hav this kind of complain after robstroy’s way back.

  2. John Said,

I am a Brit now living in Davao City, and I so agree with you. Customer service in the Philippines is very poor. I spent my life in UK serving customers when I was in a supermarket right upto when I was a Director.

I have been to CDO many times and have nearly cried at the way they treat people, and have concluded its because the staff are changed every six months, and will have to leave, and have no loyalty or requirement to impress the owners or the public.

The managers are useless as they are too scared for their own jobs to enforce any real change

  3. atty_magman Said,

ems – true. i thought they have changed, considering that Robstroy’s incident was a year ago. oh well, old habits never die.

John – i have the opportunity to work in the US as a restaurant crew and then promoted to supervisor, so i know how serious customer care is to you guys.

we had two days of nothing but training how to serve people, and you even have to know how to serve alcoholic drinks right or else.

that’s why i admire some establishments who pours out care and great service to their customers here in the Philippines. and i am ashamed much of those who are not.

really, you can laugh at our customer care. and at our economy. :-D

thank you for the replies, guys!

  4. orman Said,

chow king national highway in gensan is a major service disaster.

their halo-halo is not as good as before… mas maraming ice kesa sahog.

  5. atty_magman Said,

gandang Orman – awts. Chowking really needs to do a staff/crew recall…

  6. atty_magman Said,

or they really have to re-assess their service system.. boo…

  7. PrivateGuy Said,

For me… Hmmm Poor Costumer Service! They just use 1 Cashier Machine while they have other machine who is vacant. The customer Cant accommodate fast because of FIFO Style First in First Out….

  8. J. Ibanez Said,

Haven’t been to CDO for a while now. Sad to hear that these things happen there.

  9. atty_magman Said,

    J.Ibanez – true. so sad..

  10. atty_magman Said,

    privateguy – ikr.

  11. ChowQueen Said,

First of all, Chowking is a fast food chain, not your typical wifi/internet biztro. I personally hate those people esp. “some” who happens to be in the place “leeching” for damn internet and sucking all the bandwidths. We served food. If you have a problem with our FREE WIFI, get out and look for some place!!!

    Nakakairita kayo! Kainis!

  12. atty_magman Said,

if your fast-food chain is ought to “served” food, then get on with it. don’t put “FREE WIFI” when you don’t really want to let your customer use it.

i can talk to the manager but opt for this since this is more moving than talking to a manager. see what happened to you.

    kaloka ka.

  13. Brendel Said,

Actually, when I read your post, I’m not so surprised anymore. Chowking is not known for cleanliness and efficiency.

I think Chowking’s upper management should conduct spot checks to find out which of their store managers are doing their jobs well.

  14. HoyChowQueen Said,

If you’re someone from Chowking Velez, you are not handling this professionally.
Why place a “wifi free” zone if you’re not going to give that service anyway? You don’t even allow the charging of laptop even when we try to pay for it 20 per hour.

You know what, napangitan ako sa service nyo a long time ago. Not just the wifi (if you cut if off just to make us leave then that’s wrong). Didn’t it occur to you the longer a customer stays, the more he/she buys?

Kung bakit hindi sila bibili more is because of the bad attitude of your staff. I see the staff and cook/chef eating in the dining area and look positively dirty. The staff are discourteous who leave in mid-sentence when you’re trying to request something. The supervisor was scary when she approached me if I was waiting for something/someone and I still had my number. Heck YES I’ve been waiting for ONE HOUR for my Halohalo.

And I haven’t said this to anyone but now I will. The ice in the halohalo was YELLOW as in PISS YELLOW and tasted like PISS! Unfortunately huli ko na nalaman when I was about to drink the dregs of the halohalo when I noticed na iba na ang lasa ng shaved ice!

  15. atty_magman Said,

awts. yep, they should do a spot check-up para bibo. hehe!

  16. atty_magman Said,

@hoychowqueen – really? i just hope it’s not what i think it is. they use crushed ice in black gulaman…… ew.

  17. Tolits Said,

Sana di nalang halo2x pinangalan nyo… sana flavored ice nalang.

    F*CK YOU!

  18. ChowQueen Said,

I am not from Chowking… I am not sure if it’s your first time there.

  19. atty_magman Said,

    tolits – flavored ice ftw!

chowqueen – awts. drama mo kasi eh. buti nga eh ngayon lang siya nagreklamo hehehe…

  20. Tolits Bana Said,

ChowQueen, lamunin mo yung chowking mo!

You are not from Chowking then why said in your comment this?

“We served food. If you have a problem with our FREE WIFI, get out and look for some place!!!”

  23. atty_magman Said,

  26. Mindanao Blogger Said,

CHOWQUEEN – simple lang ang sagot diyan.

If you think you can’t serve your customers well, if you think you can’t extend the services that you yourself promised in the first place

THEN YOU DON’T HAVE ANY BUSINESS TO BE IN BUSINESS!

In the PR and marketing world, this situation is called crisis management. You have a business, a customer complains and you’re now in deep shit because the last time I checked, a PAYING customer like Magman has all the right to write about his bad experience. What I suggest you do is say sorry, reprimand your staff, check the services that you promised in the first place and do better next time.

THIS IS WHAT PROPER ENTREPRENEURS SHOULD DO.

The more words, the more mistakes. Take this bravely just like any proper entrepreneur, take it as a lesson, reprimand your staff, straighten things out and serve customers better from now on. Don’t just visit blogs and criticize paying customers.

And oh, by the way, please don’t call CDO/Davao bloggers “mayabang.”

Magaling at alam namin ang mga karapatan namin is more like it.

We vehemently fight for our blogger-friends because we know they have a point and they have rights as paying customers.

  27. SaNaSaNz Said,

Dear ChowQueen, here are some of your words i’m going to reiterate and comment on.

    1. “First of all, Chowking is a fast food chain, not your typical wifi/internet biztro.”
    - Why the effin hell would they put in a FREE WIFI feature on their glass windows if they won’t offer it for use? Or maybe offer it but for a short time? Not all people could eat and use their laptops/wifi at the same time, fyi.

    2. “I personally hate those people esp. “some” who happens to be in the place “leeching” for damn internet and sucking all the bandwidths.”
    - You have just said ‘some’, why nag here when magman WAS doing work and was in fact in a meeting? didn’t you read? Maybe they should put in FREE Wifi for 5mins after you eat then?

    3. “We served food. If you have a problem with our FREE WIFI, get out and look for some place!!! Ang yayabang nyo lalo na yung mga bloggers na yaN CDO, davao, at saan pa sa pinas!”
    - You deny you’re from chowking but you use the words ‘WE’ and ‘OUR’. Pasabta daw ko? You want us to get out of Chowking? We might as well do that and let all these blog complaints get to the owners so they know how pathetic people below them handle things and we’ll see who’ll be out ‘looking for some place’. Yabang? Maybe you don’t understand the words ‘complain’ and ‘poor service’? Which you can change/deal with. Read item #1, baka matauhan ka. You just really had to specify CDO and DAVAO bloggers – so you’ll really get comments from us.

    4. “Nakakairita kala mo kung sinong magaleeeng! Pasalamat kayo at hindi ako taga-chowking baka ewan ko na lang… Hinde porket makapagsulat kayo online, puwede na kayo manira ng negosyo. If you have problems sa isang kainan or any establishments, dun na sa manager mismo ipaalam at huwag iba-blog na lang at pa-publish para lang manira.”
    - What if you’re from Chowking? We are stating facts. First hand experience. Manira? Manira is something you make up about anything which IS NOT true. But the fact that all these happened, not just once, is not panira. Just so you know, I for one have experienced this kind of treatment from this Chowking branch and had to ask the supervisor about it and guess what they said? “Something’s wrong with our router.” Are you kidding me? It was okay a few minutes ago, while I was eating, and now that I’m done, suddenly it goes whacko?

    5. “Di mahirap ang magnegosyo!! Nakakairita kayo! Kainis!”
    - Guess you’re the expert. Solve mo nga. LOL

  28. HoyChowQueen Said,

Wala talaga syang class when it comes to business. Kaya nalulugi sila. Tsk

  29. ChowQueen Said,

I just want to admit how good you guys are in writing lalo na sa isang kaibigang feeling ko nagpapatulong na. It is like you are shooting cannons with blank shells. Napakakitid ng utak nyo talaga as in nakaka-windang kayo talaga, bloggers pa naman. Hello? Sabi ko I am not from Chowking & when saying “we” ibig sabihin nagma-manage din ako ng isang fastfood na may wifi at gini-generalize ko na lang coz I have kakilala din and mind you, nasisingit din minsan ang issue pag magkasama kami. Sorry they’re TOO busy para makialam dito. Cant you see the issues here? Someone just rant, as in nilalahat na yung reklamo, kase ISANG ARAW naputol bigla ang internet mo. Bitter. Nagrereklamo ka ba when you receive something free at medyo di ka satisfied? Pathetic talaga kaloka!

  30. atty_magman Said,

@Mindanaoan and @Sanasanz – you got her right there. hahahaha!

@hoychowqueen – nalulugi na pala sila? that’s sad. yan kasi eh.

  31. atty_magman Said,

  32. shortygurl03 Said,

Halaka! WALA NA’Y MANGA-ON SA CHOWKING VELEZ. Apil nako ana.

    OG CHOWQUEEN: chillax…guilty galing…

  33. shortygurl03 Said,

  34. atty_magman Said,

shortygurl – if that’s the case then a simple sign placed on the walls would help?

but my suggestions will not count anymore. i’m not going back to that branch. again.

  35. atty_magman Said,

@chowqueen – i just want to thank that you admit that WE are good. now scram.

  36. Tolits Said,

Tarantetit kang dako!

Friends daw siya ng may-ari! pwe! ambisyusa ka! kung friend ka ng may-ari eh di makikita mo next time iiwasan ka na nila dahil they don’t want a friend na kasing boba at bitter mo. Maglaslas ka!

  37. juviness Said,

    Dear Chowqueen,

It really doesn’t matter if people commenting in this blog pertaining to below poor customer service are friends…or not. It is simply a matter of first hand experience, which so happens, have been experienced by not one person alone. It wasn’t pure coincidence that same thing happened to these people and you can’t help it if they share sentiments (just like you are sharing sentiments with other businesspeople offering wifi). The way I see it, it was a matter of misrepresentation. Don’t place “free wifi” if it’s not free. How about putting “eat and surf the net at the same time?” that would have been more helpful.

They are too busy para makialam dito? That is just so tragic. Kaya pala ikaw ang nakikialam.. haha. Well then, people are NOT TOO BUSY to voice out their complaints too, and in the end, not doing what is proper after these complaints will not be our loss.

    Careful what you say Chowqueen,

  39. ChowQueen Said,

For your info, I’m still a student pero nakapag-manage na ng isang fastfood and humahatak. I spent time with my friends din na may own business. Unlike you, puro kayo satsat wala namang binatbat. I’m sure mas matanda pa kayo sa ken pero sabi nga nila “age doesnt matter”, so I guess, what matters siguro yang mga pag iisip nyo. Halata namang magkakaibigan kayo. Pity!

Gusto mo ba yun?

    Magshampoo nga kayo!

  40. vicmadz Said,

I am just nobody but here’s what I think. I just saw this controversy over Gossip Girl in CDO and I find it interesting.

Running a business is really not easy. It should be a WIN-WIN situation. The customer pays and the business should provide the proper service. Aside from the food, customer also look into things around the place – should be clean and the service should be good.
The manager should acknowledge what the customers feel and put it as a form to improve the business.

In the internet – you say what ever you think. There are no rules as long as you know what you write and you can defend it. Social networking sites and a blog helps improve a certain business. If you’re the owner of the business you get to see all the feedback firsthand.

My line of work requires customer service. I am also a consumer. Customer service and good product are the key things for a business to prosper.

Check out all my reviews on some establishments here in Cagayan de Oro – it has the negative side and also the positive site.

  41. Benjo Said,

Don’t understand what the fuss is all about…I think ChowQueen has a point! Chow King is in business to serve food not internet service. If it were, they’d call themselves Internet King, not Chow King, di vani? I’m sure this is hard to understand by the freeloading types who occupy precious tables and chairs for hours on end…and hogging all the BW…bayad lang e isang cup ng sago’t gulaman. Inangkupo!

Student daw o… kung ganyan ka ngayong student ka pa… how much more pag gagraduate ka na. I am sure hindi magki-click ang ipapatayo mong Chowqueen fastfood.

  44. atty_magman Said,

@benjo – at least the decency of putting up a “order some more or your free internet is at stake” sign is good enough. fooling people from luring them with internet service then cutting it off after you’re done could be insulting to some. including me.

but of course, YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND. dense ka na, jogoks ka pa.

  45. juviness Said,

    Dear Benjo,

If they’re going to fool people with their free wifi sign, that is misrepresentation. Kung walang wifi, dont put up that sign. Kung usable for a limited time, or until you’re done with your meal, then say so. Freeloading? Freeloading ba umorder ka ng food worth more than 5hours of internet tapos puputulin lang after 30minutes? Kaloka!

  46. HoyBenjo Said,

Bo’s Coffee is a COFFEE SHOP but they place a WiFi FREE ZONE and they deliver the goods PROPERLY kahit ilang ARAW ka pa mag stay dun!

  47. Benjo Said,

atty_magman – dunno if you’re aware of it but you’re really coming off as being so funny…among other things. People do not go to ChowKing for internet hookup, it’s for the f*cking FOOD! Gets it??….what’s so difficult to understand about that? Sige nga, stand by the entrance and ask incoming customers if they’re there for the food or the internet. They don’t have to put up a more detailed signage as it’s belaboring the obvious…..tsk tsk…freeloader ka na, whiner ka pa! So what did you tell your client who got disconnected? Oh, ChowKing cut off my connection. ChowKing??? WTF?? How can you be so f*ckin cheap??? Ano ba iyang business mo – a) fly by night b) patakbuhin. Take your pick! Let’s see- limang halo halo, tatlong plato ng pansit, dalawang bandehadong fried chicken….or baka naman just like atty_magman, isang sago’t gulaman for the whole 5 hours….inangkupo!

  48. atty_magman Said,

benjo- i am funny. you are stupid. capisce?

  49. Benjo Said,

atty_magman – hah hah hah…that just clinched it! And you can’t even tell if someone calling you funny was meant to be a compliment or not….well, whadyaexpect?? May Pa- capisce capisce pa si maldita….hay naku!

HoyBenjo – that’s exactly my point! Just because they have a WIFI FREE ZONE doesn’t mean you get to abuse it. Iyon lang, now was that so hard to understand?

  50. atty_magman Said,

it’s my right to never take it as a compliment. capisce?

  51. Benjo Said,

Nuff said. Take some ginkgo biloba, you lil prick!

  52. atty_magman Said,

hmm… if gingko biloba cured your stupidity, i might try some.

  53. Benjo Said,

Yup, it definitely did and i’m making much more sense, don’t you agree? Now, honey, it’s time for your whiny ass to do the same for the sake of your readers or lack thereof. Ten 1000 mg. capsules every hour on the hour. And while you’re at it, use an enema coz you’re just so full of it! Bwahahahaha…

  54. atty_magman Said,

nah…. i think my humor needs not to be cured. just your stupidity because it’s malignant.

  55. Benjo Said,

Your humor “needs not to be cured”???? Heller…what kind of barok English is that? Faux attorney and blogger ka pa man din! Haynakupo!

  56. atty_magman Said,

oh, i thought you have had enough said? tsk, stupidity can’t be cured pala. :-/

and lolz, nothing’s wrong with “needs not to be cured”.

seriously, you need more of that gingko biloba stuff for your stupidity. and ignorance.

  57. emz Said,

    Dearest Chowqueen and Benjo

I think you guys have to look beyond the WiFi issue. It is not just all about it. What’s disgusting and disappointing is how these crew even the Supervisor is treating their customers. It even started with the uncleaned table and then how that ‘supervisor” turned his back from the customer when clearly his customer is not yet satisfied with his answers. Put yourself in this blogger’s shoes and tell me if you’d feel wonderful after this kind of service/treatment as a paying customer!

Regardless of this poster’s motive why he went to that establishment, he deserves the utmost care as a customer. CK is advertising for a free WiFi to attract customers…by doing so, they can’t stop people from going to their place to take advantage of what they are offering…of course by being a paying customer first! They simply have to live up to their customer’s expectations, otherwise they will see a lot of posts like this.

If you guys are businessmen/businesswomen, keep in mind that The customer is your employer. There is only one boss. The customer. And he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money some- where else.

i was once connected with Chowking as a marketting staff. i guess that 3 months, as a marketting staff my job is to answer delivery calls. i can definately say that what you experience on that said branch is frustrating and ridiculous. those those store and station managers are trained for months just to provide quality service and even forget theirselves to give good quality service to the customers, no matter how wrong the custmor is you are oblige to give respect and assis your customers. so i can definatley say that manager needs more traning or else he better kick his ass out from that store.

  75. CdeO to mania Said,

I was once connected with chowking for 3 months working as a marketting staff as my way of getting TESDA certificate because they ‘r Tesda accredited. for 3 months of working there I never had chance working as a dining crew since my work is taking care of the Delivery calls,Bulk orders and paper works. Those supervisor’s had months of training on how to give QUALITY SERVICE to the customers, on how to handle their people and to maintain Cleanliness and create happy customer and employee friendly environment.i can say that what you experience on that said branch is definately ridiculous and frustrating and gave NEGATIVE impression to its consumers
. after working for 3 months i was given a chance to work as part of management Team and trained in manila after graduation. I stayed in the company for another 7 months as part of the management team in Makati pasong tamo,EXPORT bank bldg and decided to leave it after for better opportunity. Its just so sad to read something awful as this especially sa Cagayan de oro pa. Wll regarding with the INTERNET thing. Chowking offers FREE internet to add convinience to its costumers. We dont just focus on the LOGICAL needs (FOOD) of the customers but on providing their UNSTATED needs (INTERNET). So thats why CHOWKING on the other hand has FREE internet access to attract Business man, students could have been better to dine and browse at the same time. What you have experience is totally dissapointing and needs necessary actions. People like that needs to be THROWN AWAY from far away galaxy. They are the Hindrance, barricade to the Success. Thanks for sharing.
